I won't speak ill of the dead

But read this obituary. To my way of thinking, it speaks ill of him for me.

I've been sorely tempted to speak ill of the dead in this case, but I don't think it's necessary - those who already know already know, and those who don't won't believe now any more than they did yesterday.

A Stalin, a Hitler, a Ceaucescu, a Hussein - those dead I'll speak ill of, indeed, celebrate the occasion.

Said, well, let the poor bastard rest, I suppose. Then fight his legacy.

Edward Said was an eloquent and thoughtful spokesperson for Palestinian freedom and self-determination. He will be sorely missed.
