Oh. My. God. Just...oh. My. God.
Most horrifying quote of the day, courtesy of the above article:
She died at Martin Memorial Hospital South, still attached to the couch.
One with the couch...maybe it's a Zen thing?
Seriously, my OMG moment in this story was when the said she was only 4' 10".
Posted by: LittleA at August 12, 2004 11:04 AMSorry -- but this is why I can't take the "fat is beautiful" thing seriously. There but for the grace of God ...
It's a disease, people.
Posted by: Another Damned Medievalist at August 12, 2004 03:55 PMThe news story was disturbing...very disturbing. Not moving for 6 years plus EMS needed protective gear and a method of getting fresh air in the home....and there were children in that environment!!! Breaks my heart.
As for "fat is a disease," give me a freakin' break here, people.
Cuz heaven knows the only issue is degree of fatness. No compounding factors need apply cuz it's only about the weight....

Posted by: Ron Hardin at August 12, 2004 06:51 PMFat did not cause this - this woman and her family must have had some very serious mental problems - that's why she got fat.
How on earth did she do things like - go potty?
Whoever was caring for her is responsible for not getting her mental health care, IMHO.
